2020: Pastels Rediscovered

The 2020 calendar images all reflect varying degrees and modes of tension and celebration concerning the 2020 election year.

January, July, September, and November are based upon 2019 drawings in pastel, a medium that Clifford Peterson had recently rediscovered, using a Sennelier woodbox set that he bought in Paris in 1967.

February is a colored pencil drawing from 2018, digitally layered for March, that is becoming a source for further drawings and paintings.

April, June, October, and December all come from Clifford’s Mexican-influnced paintings from the 1960s, some with 2019 digital transformations.

August grew from a 1969 knife-cut lacquer film drawing restored and modified with graphic software to create an enigmatic perhaps threatening creature looking down at a flag in hand.
