2012: ExE (Eighty times Eighty)

For the 2012 calendar source, Clifford Peterson deeply explored a complex painting that he had created in Spain in early 1967, after a pivotal autumn in Mexico that replaced his would-be sophomore year at Harvard.

As he made the digital transformations, Clifford organized 6400 images into 80 4 x 20 grids, each cell relating to the one before and after, each 80-image matrix linking to the one preceding and following.

Each image is a stage with actors, human or animal, who spontaneously emerge from the shifting abstractions.

These embodiments of the unknown can connect the viewer to a profound and mysterious spiritual world that hides within or beyond so-called reality.

Returning to these pictures a decade later, Peterson contemplates linking them all together through animation and collecting some into children’s books that are accessible to all ages.
